If you love yellow diamonds then you
are not alone. From Marie Antoinette in the decorative 18th Century,
Marilyn Monroe during the golden Hollywood years to singer Kelly Clarkson in
the 21st century, the popularity of adorning jewellery featuring
yellow diamonds remains extremely popular till the present day. Its allure and rarity
contribute towards its distinguished reputation as one of the most sought after
coloured diamonds, particularly yellow diamonds of excellent quality and brilliance. It is not surprising that yellow diamonds were once so rare that they
were reserved only for the very wealthy, royalty and maharajahs.
Although
yellow diamonds are now widely available, nothing beats a yellow diamond of
significance. This Early Modern Round Brilliant Cut Cape Diamond dates back to
the 1920s and was discovered in the Cape Province, South Africa.
The term
‘Cape’ was coined in 1870 and denotes the paler yellow hue primarily found in
the region. This pale – light yellow diamond weighs 5.90ct with a high clarity
grading of VS1. The stunning diamond is set in 4 claw platinum bar setting
on a 18ct white gold band. The dainty band
allows the diamond to ‘float’ on the finger, allowing the diamond to stand out dramatically.
To complement the Cape Diamond it is accompanied by three square cut dark blue sapphire
gemstones in a step arrangement on the shoulders, surrounded by mill-grain setting
for a subtle vintage appearance to an otherwise modern Art Deco ring.
